Bollywood stars who were lucky to get many chances…
Humans are really big on getting more chances at something because sometimes your potential gets noticed only after some point of time. Like many spiritual gurus opine, there is a time for everything. Same goes for success. It visits you only when you deserve to get lauded and loaded. In Bollywood, there have been a few actors who were privileged enough to get a second chance at their career and today, are one of the superstars.
Saif Ali Khan
Turning Point: Dil Chahta Hai
The Nawab of Bollywood has seen a lot of ups and downs in his career. He debuted withParampara which didn’t help him much while Aashiq Awara made him popular, but it was Main Khiladi Tu Anari which propelled him forward positively. However, even after doing many films success eluded him, apart from a sporadic Kya Kehna (a Preity Zinta film) or Hum Saath Saath Hai (an ensemble film). It was in 2001 that Dil Chahta hai released and things changed. It was as if Bollywood has refound a long lost actor who has skills but needed someone to hone them. The forever in love Sameer played by Saif is the one best friend we all have! Saif Ali Khan had finally arrived.
Turning Point: Koi… Mil Gaya!
He stormed into Bollywood with Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai, sweeping girls off their feet and making them sigh at his every move. Bollywood till date hasn’t seen a phenomena like that. But apart from Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham which was a mutli-starrer ably shouldered by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, his solo films like Fiza, Mission Kashmir, Yaadein, Aap Mujhe Ache Lagne Lage and others couldn’t repeat even a fraction of glory that Kaho Naa… saw until Koi Mil Gayahappened. There has been no looking back after that! The film also gave India its first superhero and is a very successful franchise.
Turning Point: Cocktail
When she debut in Bollywood with Om Shanti Om, she left everyone mesmerised by her beauty and acting skills. It was hard to believe that she was a newcomer in a film that’s toplined by Shah Rukh Khan. But the films she followed that up with were far from impressive except perhaps Love Aaj Kal. It took a heady Cocktail by Homi Adajania to pull her out of the flurry of lacklustre films that she was doing and made her a versatile actress. Playing a girl with grey shades so early in your career is a bold step forward and we are happy that it paid off or we wouldn’t have got such an awesome actress!
Aditya Roy Kapur
Turning Point: Aashiqui 2
Remember the curly-haired son of Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Action Replayyor the disturbed musician of London Dreams or Aishwarya’s aide in Guzaarish? Yes, that is the boy who has turned into this hot and happening Aditya Roy Kapur after Aashiqui 2. He played the role of an alcoholic star singer in fading times perfectly well. Today, he is one of the most promising newcomers of Bollywood!
Turning Point: Aashiqui 2
Teen Patti and Luv Ka The End had her in the lead role yet the lady couldn’t really please anyone with her histrionics. Then she took her life’s biggest gamble of walking out of her contract with Yash Raj Films and featuring in a tragic love saga called Aashiqui 2. And voila! The gamble paid off! Today Shraddha is the most sought after actress and has already proved to everyone that she is more versatile than many of her peers.
So it just takes one film to secure someone’s career.
