They are not Kishore Kumar, but they sure can kick up a storm with their singing…
In Bollywood the concept of someone crooning for someone else is a popular idea, unlike Hollwyood, where actors have to sing their own songs if they are lip-syncing it on screen. But sometimes, we do have actors who sing for themselves, maybe as a challenge to expand their skills or as a laugh or as a favour to a loved one. Previously, we had Kishore Kumar who was one true talent who has passed both singing and acting merits with flying colours. Though none of the actors below reach his level, they have made sure that their trademark is stamped on the songs they belted out, making them popular stuff that the listeners could connect with. Recently, this is becoming a huge fad, with Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar totally rocking the Dil Dhadakne Do title song, while there are reports of Salman singing for Sooraj Pancholi in his debut film.

So here is the list of ten actors who dared to try out working on their dulcet tones:

Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan had wowed many with his deep baritone singing during the ’70s and ’80s with songs like Mere Angane Mein from LaawarisRang Barse and Neela Aasman So Gaya fromSilsilaMere Paas Aao from Mr Natwarlal. In his second innings too, he had sung some really good numbers, some even too soulful enough for multiple hearings. Be it Main Yahaan Tu Vahaan from BaghbanRozana from Nishabd and Ekla Cholo Re from Kahaani, he has mesmerised us with his dedicated singing even at this age. By the looks of it, he will continue to do so for long.

Aamir Khan

The perfectionist has to make sure that every time he uses his dulcet tones, it has to be an event of the century. Though he sung parts of Bumm Bumm Bole from Taare Zameen ParDekho Aayi Holi from Mangal Pandey – The Rising, his iconic song still remains the flirty yet sensational Aati Kya Khandala from Ghulam, that has inspired many of his peers to go behind the mike.

His audition tape:

Salman Khan

When Bhai does something, it has to be a sensation. Though he rarely went behind the mike, he is all set to croon for Sooraj Pancholi’s Hero remake. He kicked off with Chandi Ke Daal Par fromHello Brother, the only aspect worth remembering from one of the worst movies Salman had done, which includes Sooryavanshi! He got a lot of appreciation for his vocal efforts in Kick, withHangover becoming a chartbuster!

His audition tape:

Shah Rukh Khan

Be it cricket, production, setting up your own studio – King Khan wants to place his mark in every field he can get his hands on. So when he tried singing, no one was surprised. Although he attempted crooning in Don and Jab Tak Hai Jaan, like Salman, his first attempt at singing will remain his best – Apun Bola from Josh.

His audition tape:

Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay Dutt, like Amitabh Bachchan, has caught the eyes of the music directors for his deep baritone. That’s why he has more than two dozen songs to his credit as a singer! His best songs till now are Rama Re from KaanteSamjho Ho Hi Gaya from Munnabhai MBBSAye Shivani fromKhoobsurat and others.

His audition tape:

Hritik Roshan

It came as a surprise to no one when Hritik Roshan attempted singing in his home production,Kites. After all, his uncle is the famous Rajesh Roshan, so there must be some kind of music gene in him as well. And for a first time attempt, it wasn’t bad at all. He later crooned with Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol for Senorita in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.

His audition tape:

Abhishekh Bachchan

Though not as prolific as his father, AB’s baby has belted a couple of numbers. His most famous song was his rap in Bluffmaster.

His audition tape:

Like his roles, even Govinda’s songs are full on masala stuff. His exuberance in the songs make them some really great listen, at least in the ’90s or when we need to dance at the weddings, be it for Dulara, his duet with Sanjay Dutt in Haseena Maan Jayegi and his ‘monkey’ song in Aankhen.

His audition tape:

Farhan Akhtar

He is multi-faceted, no doubt about that! After all, a very few have got top marks for being a director, actor, producer and even as a singer. His acting debut has some amazing rock numbers sung by him, a no mean task!

His audition tape:

Ayushmann Khurrana

If the makers has confidence in you to get you sing for yourself in your debut movie, that means you are one talent to watch. And Ayushmann, the former veejay, has seldom disappointed us as he continued to sing for himself in most of his movies.
