Salman Khan, who is currently shooting for Sooraj Barjatya’s film Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, will fly down to Jodhpur today for the final hearing of the black buck case. Yes, a court in Jodhpur will pronounce its judgment today in this much-talked about case.
“The case relates to both possession and use of illegal arms and the chief judicial magistrate’s court has kept February 25 for judgment,” public prosecutor in the Jodhpur court, NK Sankhla, told in an interview.
Salman, as we all know is accused of hunting and killing the endangered deer while shooting his film Hum Saath Saath Hain in Rajasthan in October, 1998. Two black bucks, protected under the Wildlife Protection Act, were killed on the outskirts of Kankani village near Jodhpur. The star was also accused of carrying and using illegal arms. He is also alleged to have been carrying arms with expired license.
He is currently out on bail in the case. Khan’s rifle and revolver were seized by the court when he was first accused of poaching and his licence was found to have expired.
A case under the arms act was then registered by the Luni Police on the recommendation of the forest department which had accused the actor of using arms illegally.
Khan’s Hum Saath Saath Hain co-stars – Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam – are charged with inciting the actor to hunt. He has already twice spent time in the Jodhpur jail in connection to the case, in 1998 and again in 2007.
Fresh charges were framed against Khan last year after the Rajasthan high court and the Supreme Court both ruled that the arms act could not be applied to him and sent the case back to the lower court.
And now that the judgement will be out today, do you think Salman will be sentenced to jail again? Sound off below!
