The actress issued a formal statement clarifying why she made a comment on PM Narendra Modi’s governance and Selfie with Daughter campaign…
Neha Dhupia faced some severe trolling after criticising PM Narendra Modi’s International Yoga Day celebration and the Selfie with Daughter campaign. She had tweeted,
One rain n the city comes to a standstill. Good governance is not about selfies n makin us do yoga,it’s making sure ur citizens r safe.
— Neha Dhupia (@NehaDhupia) July 21, 2015
But after several people slammed her for her views on Twitter, the Phas Gaye Re Obama actress issued this formal apology explaining her motive behind sending out that tweet. While she hasn’t deleted the tweets, here is what Neha’s statement reads,
“The intention of my tweet was never to demean or personally attack anyone. It was the mere frustration of a helpless citizen of Mumbai. I’ve tried to take the high road on the outcome and ignore the people who’ve abused me and my family and nauseam online. But I was intimidated as protestors stood outside my house. I am grateful to our police for protecting us and request people to see that my words were about a subject and not a person. My goal was never to hurt anyone’s sentiments. I have wholeheartedly & consistently supported the government’s movements like “Yoga Day” and “Swachh Bharat” as I will do in the future as well. I hope we can focus on the issues that matter and that my appeal to improve our civic amenities is taken in the right way.”
Now that Neha has cleared her stand on the entire controversy, we are hoping for the trolling to die down. A few days back television host and actress Shruti Seth also came under fire for questioning PM Modi’s Selfie With Daughter campaign. She too was faced with insane backlash on social media although she stood by her comments. What do you think about this entire issue?
