Their latest release has entered the Rs 100 crore club in just three days!
Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s latest release Bajrangi Bhaijaan hit theatres on Friday and has already entered the Rs 100 crore club. Though the film did not break the first day record created by Kabir Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger which also starred Katrina Kaif, it managed to break Kick’s weekend record. The Salman-Jacqueline starrer had minted about Rs 84 crore in its opening weekend. Apart from being one of the highest openers of 2015, the Salman – Kareena starrer has also become the third fastest film to enter the Rs 100 crore club. In the past, Happy New Year made Rs 108.86 crore in 3 days, while Dhoom 3 collected 107.61 crore in its opening weekend. While Bajrangi Bhaijaan has become the Being Human actor’s eighth film to cross Rs 100 mark, it has become Bebo’s sixth one to enter the coveted Rs 100 crore club of Bollywood.
Prior to BB, Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kick went on to become one of the biggest hits of 2014 as it made Rs 231 crore at the box office. Not just India, the film did exceptionally well in the overseas markets as well. In the beginning of 2014, Khan and newcomer Daisy Shah’s Jai Ho was released. Though the film did not receive great reviews, the film earned Rs 111 crore at the box office. While Sonakshi – Salman’s Dabangg made Rs 138. 88 crore, the sequel of the film minted Rs 158.50 crore at the ticket windows. The actor’s last Kabir Khan film which starred Ms Kaif has been one of his biggest hits so far. The Salman-Kat film made a total of Rs 199.60 crore at the box office. When Saif Ali Khan’s Begum teamed up with the Sultan actor last, the jodi delivered one of their most successful film – Bodyguard, which earned Rs 142 crore at the box office. While Bhai generally does masala films, he attempted a romcom in the form of Ready which proved to be a hit. The Anees Bazmee film raked in Rs 120 crore.
Though Kareena Kapoor is selective when it comes to signing films post marriage, you have to agree that she has a Midas touch. Her latest release has gone and become her sixth Rs 100 crore film. Ms Kapoor delivered a superhit last year in the form of Rohit Shetty’s Singham Returns which made Rs 139 crore at the box office and was one of the top ten grossers of 2014. Apart from this one, Shetty’s Golmaal 3 also gave her another Rs 100 crore film. Prior to this Bebo’s Ra.One with Shah Rukh Khan made Rs 170 crore and Bodyguard with her Bajrangi Bhaijaan co-star earned Rs 142 crore. Though Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Iditots starring Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi has been her biggest hit since it earned Rs 202 crore, we won’t be surprised if the latest Kabir Khan film beats this record.
So with this, one thing is for sure, Salman and Kareena do have the Midas touch. Don’t you agree? Post your thoughts in the comments section below!
